every once in a while, i come across something that touches me so deeply, i feel inclined to pen it down.
Parker Palmer:"Why is it that we do not like to listen, or want to listen?"
I think the answer is simple:
We fear hearing something we don't want to know to hear, something that might compel us to reflect on ourselves and, in consequence, change our hearts and minds and behaviours.
If we keep talking, not listening, we can define our own reality and will not have to deal with the complexities and ambiguities that lie beyond our simplistic definitions.
Listening too carefully might end up confusing us, and we would rather live with clear falsehoods than with complex and challenging truths.SOUND FAMILIAR?
well, the philo question goes: Which is more important to you, happiness or truth?Would you rather live in your self-created reality or seek for the truth.
darn, i'm missing the philo forum @ RI for flag day. well, i'm looking forward to flag day, but the forum would have been interesting. especially since i haven't exeperienced a proper exchange of arguements and ideas.
mr tan's facilitation talk today was really inspiring. it was quite fun also, nothing too dry.
