heh! speech day! erm i enjoyed it, though being one of the first few to get the award, it was a tad boring at times, during the prize presentation.
i thought getting top in subject was already so good, but when i went for speech day i ended up feeling even more depressed. because there are so many smarter people out there that i can never compare to. it was just way too overwhelming, and i know i'll not get an academic award next year, so i might as well enjoy it while i can. ok, i'm not saying i'll not get an academic award next year, but i'm saying that my chances are really low, except maybe for bio and geog, because those are my two strongest subjects.
but i shan't compare myself to the other prize winners (esp the likes of sim jingwei), because there's so much more to life than academic achievements, scholarships, awards and book prizes. there's the intangible part of education that doesn't receive as much attention (i feel), because of the assumed lack of equal importance.
and i thoroughly enjoyed myself ytd because i had another talk with rachel. it's really great to talk to her, and i've gained more insights from last night. when some people see me, they think i put on a facade, simply because i seem to know a lot of people. but guess what? knowing a lot of people =/= having a lot of friends. the sad thing is we tend to equate it that way. from the simple gestures people give, you can clearly draw the line who your true friends are. and smth chao said to me ytd also impacted me a lot, and made me feel even more blessed to know who my greatest friends are (:
and i think it's grossly unfair to think people put on a facade. we are humans, and we are multi-dimensional creatures. behaving differently in different situations doesn't mean that we put on a facade, or that we're fake! it's just a different dimension to us, that's all. we are so hypocritical sometimes, to think that just because a person reacts differently to different stimuli, that person is therefore fake. but don't all of us have behave differently as well?
we're such an outward society, and we judge simply based on one's outward reactions, without even considering what is inside.
anyhow, ytd was still fun, except for the fact that i wasn't able to get lynn hill's book! because it was out of stock at borders, and kino doens't carry it. was also quite disappointed that i didn't find any shirt that i liked at fareast ): went to watch lovewrecked with rach and chao. ohmygosh, don't watch it! it's such a cheesy movie, gave me goosebumps and all. i shudder in horror, i cannot stand overly-cheesy, sickeningly-sweet movies. give me a horror over that any day! and i know how i'm going to spend my $30 book popular book vouchers! i'm going to get myself a nice set of zig markers so i can colour code my bio logbk.
